TGL
I’m not sure what I’ve just watched. Admittedly, despite watching professional golf week in week out, the TGL product is just not something that interests me. Yet, I turned it on, like most of you to see Tiger’s first competitive golf appearance since July 2024. What I tuned into, had to have felt like a massive disappointment for ESPN. They had everything going for them, with Tiger coming back and a poor Tuesday sports slate. It looked like it was going to be must watch TV, and it was, for about 15 minutes. Jupiter came out to a 2-0 lead thru five, but 3 hammers and about 30 minutes later their season was over. Three straight eagles led LA Golf Club to a 9-2 victory with Justin Rose’s 3 wood sealing the deal. It felt like an anti-climatic ending, a three point hammer and the season is over.

We didn’t get any magical albatross, or even a highlight from Tiger, who didn’t even play a singles match. Despite the lackluster ending, the tour, in combination with ESPN remain committed to making TGL work, and it seemed to have started to catch on towards the end of the season. If I was calling the shots though, I would love to see TGL disbanded, and a new par three league created. Something like the shortie’s classic, combining players from both tours would do great for growing both the men’s and women’s game in my opinion.
PGA Tour
Scottie Scheffler was back in the headlines again yesterday morning, but for a much different reason. Scottie withdrew from the Houston Open sending the golf world into a frenzy. Nevertheless, everything is completely fine with Scottie’s game, as well as his health. The decision comes as good news for the Scheffler family, who are expecting their second child sometime in the coming week.
The absence of Scottie will certainly be felt in Houston this week, as an already weak field becomes that more depleted.
LIV Golf
LIV Golf announced that they will be returning to South Africa in 2027, making it the fourth confirmed event for next year’s season. This comes just days after an incredible weekend for LIV, in which over 100,000 tickets sold. LIV continues to excel in golf starved regions of the world, such as Australia and most recently South Africa. If LIV is able to find some more “jackpots” we could see LIV grow into a really neat product.

LPGA Golf
The ladies head out down south this week, into the scorching Arizona sun. It’s another great field this week at the Ford Championship with more than 15 LPGA winners, and 8 of the world’s top 10. Nelly and Jessica Korda will also be competing alongside each other for the first time in over three years. The Cattail Course had a flare for the dramatic last year, when Hyo Joo Kim birdied the first playoff hole to win.
