Shane Lowry fires up the leaderboard

Cognizant Classic favorite, Shane Lowry delivered one of the best rounds of the week so far, firing a bogey-free, 8 under par round on Saturday to surge up the leaderboard into a tie for the lead heading into Sunday’s final round at PGA National. Lowry has company at the top of the leaderboard with Austin Smotherman, who led the tournament at the start of Saturday’s round after firing a 62 in round one, followed by a 69 in round two.

Lowry started his round out hot, with 6 birdies on the front 9, but it was his scrambling around the greens that kept Lowry bogey-free. Lowry went 5-5 on scrambling opportunities while going 2-2 on sand saves. The performance today is a momentum builder going into Sunday, and the Jupiter, FL native will definitely have the home crowd behind him as he searches for his 4th win on the PGA Tour.

“I just hit a lot of good shots and gave myself a ton of looks,” Lowry said after his round. “Everything kind of clicked when it needed to today, and that’s how you have to do it out here on a weekend.”

With the high winds forecasted tomorrow, and an unexperienced field, you have to like Lowry’s odds going into the final round. If you are looking to tune in to Lowry’s final round push tomorrow, coverage starts on ESPN+ at 7AM before moving onto Golf Channel from 1PM to 3PM, then finishing up on NBC from 3PM to 6PM.
